Is there any benefit to buying feathers during the filming of a movie?

Usually I get asked if I'd like to purchase some feathers around the 3rd or 4th scene during filming. Does buying the feathers have any impact on the end result, or am I just throwing away a couple thousand if I click "yes"?

Personally, I never noticed any difference... so I don't think there is any benefit. But I could be wrong.
